In 2013, Dennis Notten found himself in the Amazon Rainforest after following signs which led him to a tribe of indigenous people, known for a sacred, vision-giving medicine; Ayahuasca. The encounter led him to leave behind a career as a classical musician, and enter more deeply into the world of healing and plant medicines.
In his memoir, Walking with the Serpent, he shares some of his experiences and adventures with the Yawanawá, the tribe in the Brazilian Amazon that he has come to call family. He includes the vision of the man that led him to the jungle, visions he received while being on the force of ‘Madre Ayahuasca’, and his first encounter and communication with Nalini, a big boa constrictor.
Dennis is publishing his memoir episodically via Substack, to read each chapter as it is published, you can become a subscriber here.
Also, with a Founding membership, you will have access to audio recordings of Dennis sharing parts of the Creation story of the Yawanawá—and your contribution will fund the planting of one Ayahusaca vine in the Yawanawá territory. In the last decades, with an increasing amount of Westerners visiting the tribe in their territory, and more and more people drinking Ayahuasca, the territory of the Yawanawá is almost fully depleted of vines, so this act is especially meaningful.
